CHRISTMAS TABLESCAPES

CHRISTMAS TABLESCAPES

Tablescape - now that's a word likely to start a Mexican wave of eye rolls at home. I can't help myself though, it's just something that I picked up on Pinterest and now I'm flat out creating boards with "tablescapes" for every occasion.

Christmas is all about the dinner table (after that, it's basically just everyone asleep on the couch with the occasional shout out to the kitchen to... "bring in somethin' nice when yer comin'"), so it's lovely to make an effort with it and to make it feel really special.

I've just plucked a few of my favourites from my Pinterest account to give you some inspiration. Some of these are really elaborate, some are really simple but all beautiful. So whatever your taste, you can totally make your table worthy of the best dinner of the year.

You can do some lovely things with napkins. Even just placing the cutlery and a spray of greenery on top and then wrapped up in twine works beautifully. Go foraging in your garden (or your neighbours garden) and snip a few bits and pieces. Sostrene Green sell gold cutlery too and it's sooo cheap (I think starting from about€1.2o). It feels really festive.

Something really simple, like making place cards, can have a big impact…. The Art and Hobby shop have packs of the brown luggage tags for €1.25 which are perfect for this. A sprig of Rosemary wrapped into a circle and stuck with wire or a little florist tape make the perfect mini-wreaths for tables. These are just some ideas, there are literally thousands of DIY projects on Pinterest.

Candles always make a table setting feel so atmospheric and intimate. To really make a statement why not spray paint any candleholders that you have so that they match? - or you could even just buy lots of inexpensive ones and spray them gold. Mixing all that gold with bits of wild greenery is such a beautiful contrast.

These are fun to re-create and, in my case, provide a welcome distraction from the food but remember in the grand scheme of things, nobody cares how you set your table. It's about being with people you love, taking a break from the rat race and opening that top button. Enjoy! I hope it's a peaceful one.
